The Los Angeles-based franchise is inspired by the rule of the Aztec empire in the early 1400-1500s. The Aztecs were expert hunters and gatherers with a powerful military tradition, each member of society wearing a specific headdress signifying their rank. The most elite warriors would bear the head of an eagle with an open beak, distinguishing themselves for their bravery on the battlefield. This tradition is carried out into the Los Angeles Aztecs' primary logo.
The Aztecs wear a burgundy red uniform paired with black and sand, signifying the color of the ancient temples and ruins.
